Aug 16, 2021

With Master Gardener and Permaculture Design Instructor Paige Payne

Do you ever want to just get away and escape to someplace peaceful, tranquil, and above all, private? A place where you could get away from your phone, kids, or other stresses of everyday life so you could just read, relax, or meditate. How wonderful would it be if it were only steps away and you could go there whenever you wanted? Can you imagine a secluded spot filled with greenery right in your own backyard? Or, if you don’t have a yard, learn how you can create this space indoors?

My guest today, Paige Payne, is a master gardener and certified permaculture design instructor. She is an expert in sustainability for landscape design and loves to share her passion with clients and students. She talks with us about how to design the perfect meditation garden and relaxation retreat outdoors or indoors!

Today’s Takeaway:

There is a reason why meditation and tranquility gardens have recently become so popular. Finding that “me time” away from the demands of the day really helps to improve mood and mental wellbeing. Sometimes it’s exhausting and mentally taxing to be on call throughout the day in response to the needs of others. Taking 5 or 10 minutes to breathe, relax, and re-center ourselves can make all the difference in the world. If you’re already practicing meditation you know how beneficial that time is, so why not do it in a beautiful setting? Do you sometimes find it challenging to quiet your mind and begin your practice? How much easier would it be to achieve that meditative state if you had that perfect tranquil spot to escape to? Surrounding ourselves with beauty and greenery might help us forget our problems or reboot after a stressful day. Connecting with nature is one of the healthiest ways to sustain ourselves mentally and spiritually. Remember to give yourself the gift of time and serenity by creating an indoor or outdoor space just for you. Let the beautiful sounds that nature provides take you away. I’m Florine Mark and that’s “Today’s Takeaway.”
