Today's Takeaway with Florine Mark

Nov 9, 2020

With James Beard Award Nominated Chef, Lena Sareini

When our “perfect” careers or relationships end, we need to face the situation head-on, accept it, and envision a new dream for ourselves.  We just need the courage to recognize and make positive changes.

Florine sits down with nationally recognized and award-winning pastry chef Lena Sareini. Lena’s fast-paced life was abruptly changed when the pandemic shut down her restaurant. In that time, she was forced to slow down and reevaluate what she really wanted her life to look like. She left her full-time job in the restaurant and is now in full pursuit of her own dreams.

What You’ll Hear on This Episode:

  • Lena talks about how her childhood and Lebanese family inspired her love of food.
  • How Lena filled her time still creating when the pandemic forced her to be at home.
  • Quarantine forced Lena to slow down and it was the unexpected motivation she needed to do some self-reflection.
  • After restrictions were lifted, Lena went back to working in the restaurant but with the stress of working with a reduced staff and added responsibilities, it no longer made her happy.
  • Since leaving her job, Lena is working on a series of collaborations and projects, including pop-up dinners, that allows her to have full creative control.
  • What it’s like being the fiance’ of a pastry chef and how Lena keeps her desserts “healthy.”
  • Lena describes where she sees herself a year from now.
  • Today’s Takeaway:  When our “perfect” careers or relationships end, we need to face the situation head-on, accept it, and envision a new dream for ourselves.  We just need the courage to recognize and make positive changes.
